At times, life can be so overwhelming that it can be difficult just to maintain. Coupled with expectations from others and ourselves, these pressures can cause us to retreat to unhealthy choices or choose to do nothing at all. Those moments have led Noel to appreciate the “space of being okay”. He is motivated to help clients reach a state of stability that will allow them to better begin moving forward towards their destination. Finding a sense of security, no matter how small, can sometimes be the difference between treading water or swimming.
As the saying goes, no person is an island. A support system is essential in helping us be our best selves and continuing when the path is difficult. Depending on the situation, they can give us confidence or be a comfort. Remembering that we are not alone, that we have access to our interpersonal networks, strengthening these connections, and investing ourselves in these relationships helps us to center and persevere. Noel sees his role as a counselor as being a supportive piece of that essential network.
Noel’s approach is considerate and casual, with an at-the-ready sense of humor. He looks at the “bigger picture” and the broader perspectives than can be helpful in understanding where to focus and move forward in our lives. As an EMDR trained therapist, Noel also understands the way in which our past experiences impact us in the present. Noel supports his clients on the path to resolving traumatic or adverse experiences, helping clients move towards adaptive ways of integrating their experiences in order to live more fulfilling lives in the present. Guided by a Strengths Perspective and experienced in the lens of Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Noel will support you in reaching a safe space and identifying what you already have within yourself that will sustain you as you navigate stressors in your life.
Born in the Philippines, Noel moved to Brooklyn, New York at a young age. He later moved to New Jersey where he has lived the majority of his life. He also has gotten the opportunity to live in Arizona and the Bay Area in California. Noel considers himself a sports fan and enjoys consuming science fiction and fantasy content. He tries very hard to exercise and practice mindfulness on a regular basis. Noel resides with his creative wife and their precocious daughter in South Jersey.
