Sarah Temel, M.S.Ed, LAC
Sarah is a New Jersey Licensed Associate Counselor providing counseling for girls, teens, and adults at Mindful Soul Center for Wellbeing. She obtained her Master’s degree in School and Mental Health Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently under supervision working towards her license in professional counseling. Sarah has completed intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through a certificate course facilitated by Lane Pederson, Psy.D, and draws heavily from this modality in all of the work that she does. At its core, DBT is a therapeutic modality that focuses on finding that elusive middle path; the magical place where we can both accept ‘what is’ while working towards change.
Sarah provides counseling to clients in areas such as social anxiety, depression, self-harm, and those struggling to set boundaries and be more assertive. She has a particular passion in providing counseling to tween and teen girls, young adult women and college students, and Empaths, or Highly Sensitive People (HSP), of all ages.
When working with young people and their families, Sarah helps navigate the difficult emotions, behaviors, and communication pitfalls that often occur during these crucial stages of development. Sarah understands how challenging it can be to navigate the adolescent storms and sees it as part of her life’s work to help young people and their families steer their ships in healthy directions. Sarah also facilitates the Brilliant & Resilient, a DBT-Based Skills and Process Group for Teen Girls.
An empath herself, Sarah is naturally attuned to those around her and is therefore easily relates with other empaths and Highly Sensitive People. In her work with these clients, she often supports HSPs in developing a deeper understanding of themselves and supporting their uniqueness. Many HSPs find themselves drained from the relationships in their life, sometimes these relationships are toxic and harmful. Sarah’s warmth creates a space that is open and secure so that these clients can recover, repair, re-energize, and heal from the relationships in their lives that have not served them.
“We are always in a perpetual state of being created and creating ourselves.”
-Daniel J. Siegel, M.D.
